Flooding Emergency

Now that we're in the rainy season we run across occasional circumstances when someone calls us with an emergency concerning flooding. Of course, you can have a bathtub, sink, toilet or washing machine flooding. Hope it doesn't happen to you but if it does...

WHAT TO REMEMBER

First of all, we do not specialize or advertise Water Restoration as a part of our business though if it is a small issue, we may be able to help our ongoing clients. We're talking about clean water flooding. We can't always get there immediately so the following are tips to remember. 

• First assess the situation. You want to do as much as you can as fast as you can. Blot out as much water as you possibly can using towels.
• Do this as quickly as possible. Lay them over the wet area, step on them. Blot out as much moisture as you can, ring them out and put them down again.
• Use fresh towels when saturated. You're trying to avoid mildew or mold so the more moisture you remove the better.
• At this point you can decide how much you want to do on your own. You can call us for advice. 

Larger areas may require a wet/dry vacuum. You might need to rent one if you are doing the clean up yourself.

Use fans to DRY THE CARPET AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. It may take days to completely dry a water damaged area. When the carpet appears to be dry still keep the fans going. Leaving them on and circulating the air for a week would be reasonable. Remember there is padding beneath the exterior carpeting that has been soaked too. High power fans that are ground level are the best. They can be rented. We might be able to supply you with some powerful fans if we have them available.

You can also use a dehumidifier to help dry out the room.


Heating the house or just the room with a very high temperature will help speed up the drying.
Make sure you sanitize the walls and baseboards if they have been affected. 

Your carpets may need to be professionally steam cleaned after everything is bone dry. (Often times the padding may need to be replaced if it has been soaked, to avoid mildew and mold from setting in) 

Water soaked carpets can be cleaned with hard work but if you have sewage or mud, etc, you might need a RESTORATION CLEANING.
